Oppie Andaresta Concerned by Planned Disc Tarra’s Branch Closure

Singer Oppie Andaresta says the plan by Disc Tarra to close down its 40 record stores indicates that the music industry is on the decline.

“I guess all musicians are concerned by this. This indicates that selling physical albums is tough,” she said to kompas.com on Wednesday.

She said that record stores offered a distinct experience that could not be replaced by digital music stores.

“If we go to a record store, we browse the album racks. At first, we may only want to buy a particular album but then we see another album. At the end, we buy both of the albums. That’s the fun thing about going to a record store,” Oppie said.

She admitted, however, that she currently bought more digital albums and bought the physical ones only if the albums were rare or unique.

“Buying from a record store in a big city is struggle. We need to face traffic jams,” she said.
